I remember when I was younger, I would get a magnifying glass and use it to burn larger small bugs as they walked along the concrete or pavement outside. Following them with the magnifier and watching them run as they realized they were being burnt alive. I'd spend at least an hour doing that, and blinding myself for longer periods cause I would stare near around where the intense light was focused on. But it was fun having that dominance over smaller creatures, especially being able to hear them pop as they heated rapidly inside and then sizzle and dry.
But sometime a few years ago instead of swatting flies, stepping on spiders, or easily squishing ants, I'd try capturing them in a container or whatever or tip of my finger and place them outside or elsewhere. Sometime along my change, I realized how important life is. And if something is alive, it deserves the right to be alive just like I do.
Flies are annoying though, right? They fly around you, land on your skin and only come right back when you shoo them away. Flies land on food and just annoying us in general. But, they are doing what they know what to do. Their job is to be a fly and I respect that. Just because it's annoying me doesn't mean I should kill it. If that's the case, then why not carry a gun and shoot children that get out of hand? Children act like children because they are still young and don't know any better and they'll change (hopefully) as they grow older. Same case with the fly, it only does what it does because that's all it knows. So instead of killing it, I'll respect what it does for a living and try placing it elsewhere.
Think about if the roles were switched, put yourself in the body of the fly. You see yourself coming along with a fly swatter and before you know it you see it coming at you and before you recognize the threat and get a chance to fly away, you're dead or badly injured flopping around. And what for? Just because you're a fly?
I find it funny how people get annoying from the same situations. Like how many times have you gone to or hosted a picnic or BBQ and see yourself or someone else get annoyed with how many flies there are? Everyone should realize that if you eat outside, there's most likely going to be bugs flying in the air and they will be annoying. Yet you go totally oblivious to it and use whatever energy being annoyed/frustrated/uncomfortable/whatever/etc. feeling the same way so many times before.
The same can go with spiders and ants or whatever bug. Everyone should know that they will always exist and there _are_ some solutions to avoid them from being in your environment either outside or inside your home. It's just that we are too thoughtless to do anything about it until they are there and kill them because they're in our territory. So either do something before the bug becomes a problem for you or just learn to embrace the bug into your life. If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem.
I embrace bugs in my life, because I know I'm not going to do anything about it to keep them out. Plus it's part of nature and has the right to live. |
